Cyan - PCGS MS66 CAC Ex. Aurora Borealis, Northern Lights Collection, Lloyd Cowle, Battle Creek Collection - “Hopi Jewel”
Cyan toned Morgans are unique in that their shades are almost always different, even among the very few that exist. This spectrum of color is found just in between blue and emerald green on the Sunnywood Color Classification Chart, so the specific shade of cyan that any one of these coins exhibits depends on if the coin is more blue or more green. Add a little more green than blue and you’ll get a turquoise coloradd more blue than green and you’ll end up with more of an “electric blue.” (To view the various shades of cyan, click here). This particular coin is a slightly more blue shade of cyan, and is absolutely gorgeous. The colors and luster make this coin appear out-of-this-world, and it is a spectacular piece that has been a part of some of the most notable collections since it was first discovered in a bank bag in the Battle Creek Collection. It is one of only 5 or 6 Morgans that I’m currently aware of that would fall into this scarce monochromatic category of toners, and it is the finest example of the lot!
